Igreja Evangelica Confissao Luterana no Brasil Files 1972-1988; 1972-1985.

This series comprises records retained by the office of the Secretary for Latin America and the Middle East of The American Lutheran Church's (TALC) Division for World Mission and Inter-Church Cooperation (DWMIC). They are related to DWMIC involvement in mission and ministry in Brazil through its cooperative partnership with the Igreja Evangelical Confissao Luterana no Brasil (IECLB). Records are from 1972-1988 with the bulk dating from 1972-1985 and include typewritten and handwritten business correspondence, printed meeting minutes, topical reports, financial statements, information bulletins, and progress reports. The bulk of the records is correspondence between the DWMIC and the IECLB. Much of it is written in Portuguese or Spanish, but some letters have an accompanying translation. Subject matter contained in the correspondence includes loan requests, grant requests, personnel matters, budget matters for the TALC missionary association in Brazil, project requests for TALC's United Mission Appeal fund (UMA), scholarship assistance, property transfers to IECLB, inquires from TALC missionaries serving in Brazil, general administrative matters, transmittal of missionary association meeting minutes to DWMIC, and IECLB subsidy requests and allocations. Examples of projects receiving funds from TALC include a FM radio project, new areas of colonization in Brazil, an agricultural training project, and a training center for farmers.

The American Lutheran Church (1961-1987) was formed by the merger of the American Lutheran Church (1930-1960), the Evangelical Lutheran Church and the United Evangelical Lutheran Church. Representatives from each of the constitutent churches formed the Joint Union Committee in 1950 to effect the merger. Presidents of the constituent bodies at the merger were Henry F.
